Lighthouse

You are the light of the world–like a city on  hilltop that cannot be hidden.  Matthew 5:14

As I sit in my office at Lighthouse, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all the wonderful things God is doing here, and the amazing people we have met through this ministry.  Ian and I have been coming to Lighthouse Community Service Center of Lynchburg for over a year now.  The first time we came, on a Saturday night last July, Finny walked outside with a bright smile and welcomed us to attend the church service they were having.  We all saw Jesus’ light in each other and knew that we were part of the same family, the family of God, from the very moment we met.  So after talking for a few minutes about our enthusiasm for what God had done in our lives and what He was doing all over Lynchburg and the whole world, we went in and enjoyed our first Holy Spirit driven Lighthouse “church” service.  It was quite a unique service, very strange, yet very comfortable, and we felt right at home.

Since then Martha and Finny have been there for us in many ways, always exemplifying Jesus in all they do.  They have been such a blessing and we are so thankful to God for putting them into our lives.  They have helped us with everything from giving us a place to stay when we had nowhere to go, providing countless meals, helping us find an apartment to rent despite our bad credit, all the way to officiating our wedding (Finny and Dr. Mitchell) and giving us a beautiful reception afterwards.  There are also many more ways that Lighthouse has been a blessing to us and that Martha, Finny, and Collison have helped us out.  The reason why I am sitting in an office right now typing this is because they decided to make us an office here while we were away on our honeymoon.  It is such a blessing to be able to be a part of the ministry that has helped us in so many ways, and to now be able to work alongside Martha, Finny and so many other wonderful servants of God in spreading Jesus love to as many people as possible.

This place truly is a light to the world, and I am so thankful to be a part of the amazing things God is doing in and through all of us here.  I am so happy to be a member of the Lighthouse family, which more closely resembles the way the Body of Christ is supposed to work together then anything I have ever seen.  We love and support one another; we strengthen and build each other up.  We laugh together and cry together; we worship together and eat together.  We pray together and serve God together.  It is amazing how God has given each of us our own unique role in this ministry so that we are all able to contribute something special as we work side by side for the Kingdom.  Whenever we are in need of a particular skill or ministry, someone walks through the door that has that exact skill or wants to start that very ministry.  I love seeing God’s provision in so many ways and I look forward to seeing all that God will do through our quirky little Lighthouse family.

Watch out world, here we come!

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it.  John 1:5

Erica, I can feel the Holy Spirit speaking through you as you describe your Lighthouse family and ministry. As we reach out to share Jesus and His love with others, there is no better way than to be able to share our own stories and our journey with the Lord! As Jesus preached, He used His parables as examples in His teachings. We do the same thing when others can see Jesus in us and see the work of our heavenly Father through His Holy Spirit! I am so very happy for you and Ian! May you continue to be blessed in your ministry and your marriage! I will add Lighthouse to my prayer list and know that many lives will be changed forever! Love and blessings! Mary
