Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20
As I am sitting here in my beautiful new home finding verses and typing plans for our Celebrate Redemption meeting tonight, I am overwhelmed with God’s goodness. I have to take a moment out to write and glorify God for the wonderful things He is doing in our life.
Ian and I were homeless for a short time when we first arrived in Lynchburg, so we were extremely thankful when we were able to rent out an apartment because of the job God provided for Ian and all of Ian’s hard work. However, after going through a winter in our apartment we realized that we really needed to find a new place to live. The place we were living had only electric baseboard heating and cracks and spaces in the windows where all the cold air came through. When summer arrived, it was difficult due to the fact that we did not have air conditioning. We were extremely thankful for having a home at all, but we did start looking around for something else.
We looked for about four months and found many places, but none of them worked out in every way, so we just stopped looking. We had a real strong sense that we didn’t need to look anymore, but that God would provide. As it started getting closer to winter, we began wondering where this place was that God would be providing and when it was going to happen. We had all kinds of possibilities in our minds, but just kept trusting that God would open up a door of opportunity for us and make it clear that it was Him working.
During the time that we had been looking at different homes, we found one on a lake that was beautiful and I went through a whole thing with God: hoping, praying, dreaming, and believing that this was what He was providing. When it just didn’t work out, I was momentarily devastated and then I let God renew my strength and faith. I said, okay God, this beautiful lakehouse isn’t it, so I know You must have something better for us. I really couldn’t fathom what better than this would be, but I was able to let it go, knowing that God is always faithful and that I could trust His good plans for my life.
Fourteen months, a cold winter and a hot summer later, God has done it. He went beyond all that we could ask or imagine and provided us the opportunity to rent out a lovely condo on a lake with a fireplace! And it’s completely and beautifully furnished! The way that this came about was absolutely God-ordained. I won’t get into the details right now, but believe me, just like everything else in our lives, there is no denying that God put it all together. I have seen over and over again the wonderful things that God does when you truly put your trust in Him. Ian and I are so incredibly blessed!
The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land He is giving you. Deuteronomy 28:8
