Trusting God

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.  Jeremiah 17:7-8

I love this verse because it shows the strength and peace we have when we put our trust and confidence in God.  We often deal with situations that are completely out of our control, just like the tree dealing with the heat and drought.  However, when our confidence is in God, we can continue to be at peace even in the midst of circumstances that we do not understand.  Just like the tree held onto the water deep in its roots during the time of drought, we need to hold onto the water of the Word and let it sustain us even when we are experiencing hardships in life.

God is good all the time.  God is love, and He loves us more than we can ever imagine.  God will never leave us nor forsake us.  Many times in the midst of difficult circumstances we have a harder time accepting these truths.  However if we are able to put our confidence in the Lord even when we are enduring trials, we will be blessed.  He is our life line, our anchor, our rock.  With our foundation in God, we will be able to not only survive tragedies and trials, but also maintain peace throughout them knowing that He works all things to the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

Bad things happen to everyone; the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike.  One of the many things that is great about being a child of God, is that even when something bad happens, we know that God will work out the situation for our good and His glory.  We know that we can remain confident in His faithfulness in every situation.  We know that we can have faith in His goodness, love, and grace.

One of the things that helps me hold on to hope is looking back at all the other situations that I was feeling desperate in and remembering how God came through for me.  When I remind myself of all the times He has been faithful in the past, it makes it much easier to realize He will be faithful in the current situation as well.  Standing with God in a difficult situation is like being in the eye of a tornado or the calm at the center of a storm.  Everything around you may be in a state of upheaval, but you can remain in peace because you are placing your trust and confidence in the Prince of Peace.

Even when you don’t feel Him, He is with you.  Even when you don’t see it, He has a plan.  Even when it looks impossible, He can make it happen.  It says in the Bible that hope is the anchor for our souls.  When we place our hope in the God of all creation, we can stand firmly, trusting Him in any situation.

Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.  Psalm 31:24

Excellent! Love it! You’re my favorite eldest daughter. Do you remember the word “eldest”?

Erica, these were the perfect words for me today! Maybe that is why the Lord guided me here at this very moment! Life has been a bit tumultuous! (I love that word, but not the fact that it describes my world lately) I have been very weary but blessed with time to rest in Him throughout. Love picturing myself in the eye of a tornado or at the calm in the center of the storm. Both visuals affirm my faith that God is good! and even amidst all the chaos of late His loving Presence brings me great peace! My word for 2014 is HOPE and my scripture verse is Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know I am God.” I know that God spoke to my heart through you and I say Amen! All praise, glory and honor to our Almighty, Powerful, Loving and Gentle heavenly Father! Jesus, you are my Hope!
